Definition of "Instransigence"

intransigence: (1) the holding of convictions which are not subject to alteration or compromise and must be defended at any price even unto death (2) an unshakable commitment to a cause that takes precedence over everything else (3) the essence of the purest patriotism and man's highest strivings for justice if exerted on behalf of a just cause (4) when the object being pursued is an ignoble one, or the means by which it is pursued villainous, then intransigence is synonymous with fanaticism.

Exactly.

A word can have many acceptations, and sometimes the same word applies to opposites. Of course, when the enemies of Cuban freedom use "intransigent" to describe us, they don't mean it as a compliment. Still, to be insulted by such a crowd is in itself a compliment.

Intransigent Cuban exiles and fanatical Cuban Communists (esp. of certain generations) are extraordinarily similar in regard to temperament and personality.

Why wouldn't they resemble each other in many particulars given that they belong to the same generation and lived parallel lives till the day their paths diverged?

Hi Manuel! Glad to see you're blogging again! I have been inactive of late but I'm hoping to regroup- on my own- and I'd like to catch up on your blog, too.

¡Suerte!

Nice to hear from you again, too. I would not necessarily say that I have resumed blogging on the question of Cuba. I have, more or less, been inactive since closing RCAB in anticipation of what happened on December 17. Now that it has happened, however, and exactly as I predicted it would in 2008, I have returned for one final bow. I suppose I could have reopened RCAB for the occasion, but then I would have raised certain expectations (and, dare I say, fears) that I have no interest in fomenting. After December 17, all is epilogue anyway.

Best wishes as always.
